- my 3 year old daughter is in a 3/4 body cast for the next month
- my wife is basically on bed rest for the next 6-10 weeks
- my 11-month old daughter is teething and my son is starting kindergarten this week (sorry kiddos, normally those would earn you plenty of attention, but not this week!)
I was so disappointed to miss the first meet, but I'm proud of the way the team performed--both on and off the course. A special thanks to Mr. Savage for filling in for me at the meet. Thank you to the Chatmans for taking up a collection, and a huge thank you to everyone who contributed. I can't tell you how much that meant to my wife and me. Thank you to those of you who even thought to visit Clara and bring her goodies. I can't get over how thoughtful this entire cross country family has been to my family over the past week. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am very blessed to be involved with this group this season.
In the future, you can expect a recap of the meet to be posted online, and results/stats to be published. I'm going to try to get a copy of the results from Saturday to add them to our stat report. In the meantime, here are some updates and announcements to pass along:
I've been impressed with the effort at this week's practices. It seems like every day someone different stands out with a praiseworthy day. I really am proud of the work ethic on display during the workouts lately, and I think it is really going to pay off once we get into the competitive phase of our season.
Tomorrow (Thursday) is our football relay from KCHS. The map and the itinerary are available online, and printed copies were handed out at practice. Please arrive at your starting location a few minutes early. I'll be following the runners in my van with supplies and my phone, so don't hesitate to contact me at any point during the run. The plan is to make our final leg of the run from the plats to the stadium, entering between 6:50 and 6:55pm. If it all gets timed well, we will hand the game ball to an official just before the national anthem. Athletes are encouraged to stick around and support the football team in their season opener.
LABOR DAY WEEKEND:
Friday, Saturday and Monday are 'semi-optional' practices. Basically, if you have no reason NOT to come, you should come to practice. I will not be taking attendance and attendance will have no bearing on personal days, meet participation, etc.
Next week Wed-Fri we have 3:30 practices right after school. HS athletes needing a ride to a practice at the MS may ride their regular bus, then get off at the MS. You will need a note, however. Please see me for more information. HS athletes needing a ride to a practice at the primary(track) may ride one of the three shuttle buses (pink, orange or white) to the track. Unfortunately, I've been told that there will not be any buses available to MS students when we practice at other locations.
Stay cool, enjoy the last few days of summer, and Go Rams!
