In the girls' race, Phoebe started strong and never relented, finishing in 3rd place overall. Whitney and Sydney also earned medals, and Syd cut another 15 seconds off of her personal 5k record. Bethy and Gina rounded out the top five for the girls, and were the first two girls from any school to miss out on a medal. Kasey trimmed 17 seconds off of her previous best to establish a new PR time. It was great to see Leah back in action after her injuries had kept her out of the previous four meets. Sierra ran her second-best race of the season, and Grace recorded her third-fastest time.
For the boys, Noah had the best race of his life. He broke 20 minutes for the first time, chipped 19 seconds off of his PR and medaled for the first time this year. Despite being hampered by a nagging knee injury, Robert finished in the top 20 while running under 20:00 for the fourth consecutive race. Even on an off-day for Nathan, he still continued his impressive freshman year campaign by running well enough to be a varsity runner at 10 of the 11 schools in the field.
It may have been the last and the smallest race of the day, but the sixth grade two-mile was filled with great accomplishments by G-A's runners. All four Rams set personal records! Lauryn won the girls' race (and only lost to one boy) in 13:41. Jacey continued her linear rate of improvement by running almost a minute faster than last week's two mile race at Schoolcraft. She finished in 4th place for the girls. Aiden earned a medal with a ninth-place finish in just his second race ever. And Daniel cut more than 30 seconds off of his previous best time for his fastest race of the season.
Speaking of Daniel and improvements, he had one of the most significant accomplishments of the year on Friday. After missing the team's timed miles last week due to an injury, he ran alone on the track during Friday's practice. Over the course of seven weeks, he cut his mile time from 11:37 to 8:54--the largest improvement of anyone on the team. Way to go DC, and way to go Rams for an outstanding meet on Saturday!
Stay tuned for some important announcements regarding the upcoming week's schedule.
