Another G-A athlete earned KVA honors for the first time, as Gina ran an outstanding race and finished in 10th place. After a conservative start, she passed three people in the 2nd mile and three more people in the 3rd mile to clinch her first-ever top-ten finish in any race. This finish earned her a medal as a 1st-team All-KVA runner in her junior year. Gina beat every runner on five out of the league's eight teams. It was great to see Whitney back on the course after a long stint on the injured list. She was G-A's 2nd runner, followed by Rachel, Ashley and Leah. Bethy also returned to action after recovering from injury, and for the first time all season, all 10 of our girls started and finished the race! Sierra fought through a headache throughout the entire race. Emily and Grace both ran blazing fast first miles, and probably wished later that they hadn't, and Megan ran one of her best races of the season, probably having the best personal race out of all G-A runners.
The girls scored their lowest (best) point total of any of this year's KVA meets and finished in 5th overall. While the final season standings have to be calculated by the league commissioner, I believe we will end up in 5th. That would be higher than we finished last year, and the first top-5 finish by G-AXC in quite some time.
I would like to thank everyone who helped make the meet a success today. In addition to the support from our administrators, we had tremendous support from our team's parents and the middle school athletes. 100% of our middle school runners volunteered to work at the meet today, which was very much appreciated. A special thanks to Mr. Blood, who worked with me since 8am to get two courses ready, Mrs. Nantz for a last-minute trip to the store, Mr. Wood for support early in the day and use of his tent, Mrs. French for getting her early and bringing supplies, and to all of the others who volunteered time, energy and food for the meet today. I heard many positive comments about the meet and that reflects well on our team and community. So THANK YOU!!
