The best individual race on the girls' side was run by Bethy, who ran a season best time and moved up 21 places from the last Jamboree. In doing so, she secured her varsity letter with her fifth straight scoring finish. Kasey also turned in a strong individual performance by running a fast first mile en route to her best KVA-placing of the season. Sydney and Grace ran their fastest time at any KVA-meet this year, Phoebe and Whitney finished in the top 20 and Dharma improved her placing by 8 spots since the last Jamboree. We were happy to see Rachel back in action as she fought her way to a 23:59. A month without running didn't leave her feeling very good, but we look forward to seeing her chip away at those times over the next few weeks. Gina ran another solid race and looks to be fully recovered too. Scoring for the varsity were Phoebe, Whitney, Rachel, Gina and Bethy.
For the guys, Nathan had a remarkable race, shaving one second off of his PR. He was the 5th fastest freshman in the race. More impressively, after finishing #73 and #69 at our first two Jamborees, he cruised to a 34th place finish at Schoolcraft! Noah fought his way through a sore quad to a gutsy finish and Robert placed in the top 25 with his 3rd sub-20:00 race of the season. His best time last year would only be his 4th best time this year.
Every one of our middle school runners had a notable performance in the meet. Lauryn was the 6th grade girls' winner for the third straight meet. What's more, she beat all but one of the 7th grade girls, all but two of the 8th grade girls, and all but two of the 6th grade boys. Jacey's finishes at KVA meets have gone from #11 to #9 and now to #6 as she continued her trend of huge PRs. Her last three race times have been 18:26, 17:57 and 16:06! If she keeps this pattern up, she'll be able to teleport by Christmas. Not to be left out, Daniel cut a huge chunk off of his two-mile time, running nearly a minute and a half faster than his previous best.
We're in the second half of our season and it will be over before you know it. For planning purposes, middle school runners' last meet is 10/19. High school runners not participating in Regionals will be done competing that day too (but everyone can still practice with us the following week if desired). Only high school girls who qualify for the state meet will be running after 10/26.
Next up is the Portage Invitational on Saturday. If you've never been, it is an enormous meet. I'll send out information on Wednesday. Great job today Running Rams!
