In the girls' race, Phoebe medaled with a 14th place finish and a PR of 21:51. Whitney ran her best race of the season, a 23:04, which missed medaling by ONE PLACE. I don't think there's anything more frustrating than that, but it was a fantastic race for her too! Sydney and Bethy both cut about 3 1/2 minutes off of their times from Tuesday to finish as our 3rd and 4th runners and it was great to see Leah racing for the first time this season. She toughed it out through a sore foot/ankle to finish as our 5th runner. Dharma also cut over 3 minutes off of her time from Tuesday to set a new PR, and Kasey improved her time by nearly FIVE MINUTES! Her time was significantly faster than any race she'd ever run before.
For the guys, Robert had the opposite fortune of Whitney, as he finished one place ahead of the last medaling place. His 19:23 was a huge PR for him, cutting over 30 seconds off of last year's season-best time. Nathan and Noah joined Kasey in the five minute club, as both ran their races in under 20:30 today. Noah actually cut over six minutes off of his time from Tuesday and all three of our boys finished in the top half.
We finished the morning with our middle school races. Lauryn impressed us all with a third place finish in the girls' race, which was even a combined 6th-8th grade race! I was expecting Michelle to cross the mile mark around 14 minutes, but she came by me at 9:55! That was by far the fastest mile she's run all year, and she ended up with an impressive finish too. Daniel's race was impressive for its consistency, as he clocked right where he should have at both the mile mark and the finish line, maintaining a steady pace the whole way.
I was thrilled by the performances today, but I'm still eager to see what our team can do when we're at full strength. Thanks for the food, driving, cheering and all of your support parents. Athletes, get some rest on Sunday and come ready for another busy week starting on Monday!
If you're interested, here's the story of Tuesday's meet through my eyes. It's long and honest, so don't say I didn't warn you!
